10/31/14 Friday Math- we worked on adding and subtracting where decimals are involved. We will take the test on this next week Tuesday. Science - The AM science class still has another class day (Tuesday) to work on the vocabulary assignment in class. The afternoon science (my homeroom) has the science assignment due on Monday. If they have not completed their assignment, it is now homework.
10/30/14 Thursday- Math We practiced lining up decimals to add and subtract. The unit 2a practice test will be on Tuesday. Math box 5-6 was graded today and math box 5-7 is due next week Tuesday.
Science- We worked on the vocabulary assignment today. See downloads (above) for more information.
10/29/14 Wednesday- Math We spent quite a bit of time seeing how language arts sentences and math sentences should match. The PM math class was also able to spend some time in the computer lab working on the math games that focus on their ability levels in math. Math box 2-6 is due tomorrow.
Science- We worked on the vocabulary assignment today. The rubric is available for download from the file above.
10/28/14 Tuesday Math- We are working on taking language arts sentences and turning them into math sentences. Math box 2-6 is due on Thursday.
Science- We have a vocabulary assignment that we are working on in class. The students have a rubric that shows the expectations and points they can earn. The file for the rubric is above. I also included some of the papers that are helpful for them to complete the selected projects.
10/27/14 Monday- Math- We are using our knowledge of decimal places to make and solve story problems where decimals are important. The grades for the math test are Infinite Campus. As soon as all students have taken the test, they will be sent home with the students. Math Box 2-5 is due on Tuesday.
Science- PM science was able to complete their presentations on metals, non metals and metaloids.
10/23/14 Thursday- Math- We took the unit 1 final test today. Tests and scores will be going home as soon as all students have taken the test. We have been rushing through class and have not graded math box 2-4 yet. Math box 2-5 won't be due until Tuesday.
Science- We learned about the difference between metals, metaloids and non metals from our peers. Each spent some time teaching and some time learning.
10/22/14 Wednesday- Math- We spent time in the computer lab today working on a Gizmo to help us understand multiplying decimals. Tomorrow the the final test for unit 1. Unit 2 is divided into 2 sections. Part one is adding and subtracting with decimals and part 2 is multiplying and dividing with decimals.
Science- The difference between metals, metaloids and non metals.
10/21/14 Tuesday In math we practiced multiplying double digit numbers with decimals. A very high percentage had all of their points on math box 2-2 so many do not need to do math box 2-4, which is due tomorrow. We had time in class to work on 2-4 so many worked ahead onto 2-5.
Science AM- the difference between a compound, an element and a mixture. The pm science did that yesterday so they worked on sorting out the difference between metals, metaloids and non metals.
10/17/14 Friday. Mr. Herminette was in the classroom yesterday while I was at a science conference. I have really enjoyed having the chance to talk to you during conferences. We worked on many different things today, and different students had different focus areas.
Science- The PM class was able to see the 5 signs of a chemical reaction when we mixed sulfuric acid and sugar.
10/15/14 Wednesday Math- We practiced multiplying wen zeros are involved and did more addition and subtraction with decimals. Math box 2-2 is due tomorrow.
Science- We talked about compounds, and chemical changes. The afternoon class was able to see sulfuric acid and sugar combine together.
10/14/14 Tuesday Math. We took some time to find out who was knows how to add and subtract with decimals and who still needs more work. Math box 2-2 is due on Thursday.
Science- The main 5 signs of a chemical change- Smoke, bubbles, color, odor an heat.
10/13/14 Monday Math- Multiplying with powers of ten. Math box 2-2 is due on Thursday. Science- Compounds.
10-10-14 Friday. I have been a bit caught up in other things lately and am a little behind on keeping up on this agenda- I apologize and hope that it did not cause any confusion. We took the unit 1 practice test in math yesterday. The results will go home on Monday along with a a packet of practice work if the score was under 70%. In math at Pine Street we have delayed testing. Any students who scored 100% will get to keep their score- but all other students will take the test again in two weeks. The score on that test will be the score that will be recorded. Math box 2-1 was due today but we will grade it together on Monday.
The next unit is on adding, subtracting and multiplying with decimals.
Science- We have been covering magnetism. We had an investigation and even made magnets.
10-7-14 Tuesday Math - The unit 1 practice test is on Thursday and we had some focus review on some of the concepts that will be on the test. Math box 1-9 is due tomorrow.
Science- AM science was on conductors and insulators while the pm science focused on magnetism.
10-6-14 Monday Math- We worked on centers today in math. Each student was assigned to work in the areas that they still have not shown mastery in. We are preparing for the unit 1 practice test on Thursday.
Science- Have your student explain the difference between a conductor and an insulator to you!
10-3-14 Friday Math- We watched Math Mansions to see place value in the tenths and hundredths. We played a decimal card game and tried to make the largest numbers we could with the cards we were dealt.
Science- We talked about properties and [played some decimal bingo in the morning class. The afternoon science class does not have science on Friday's.
10-2-14 Thursday Math- We graded math box 1-8 today and then did some more practice work on decimals.
Science- We watched a Magic School Bus video on "Molly Cules". 10/1/14 Wednesday Math was an over all review day. We will have the unit 1 practice test next week Thursday. Math box 1-8 is due tomorrow. 1-8 matches 1-6 and any students who earned 16 out of 16 points on math box 1-6 is excused from math box 1-8.
Science- Part 2 of buoyancy. We had a contest to make a boat using the information we learned about buoyancy.
